Project details

What we need
  • A list of the common issues along with the prioritization of both severity and impact of the accessibility issues found
  • List of areas that do not meet the Section 508, ADA, WCAG 2.0 guidelines
  • Specific recommendations to improve product accessibility their priority level (low, medium, and high priority)
  • Estimated time needed to fix current compliance issues
Additional details

Specifically, in order to have a priority focus for this project, we'd like to focus on the volunteer-related sections of our website:

- the calendar where volunteers find opportunities
- volunteer registration forms
- registration forms
- online portal that volunteers can log into

What we have in place
  • You can see much of the content that volunteers interact with on our site at foodforward.org/volunteers.

We can also provide you with access to our backend volunteer management portal, so that you can see what volunteers engage with after signing in.
How this will help
This project will save us $4,212 , allowing us to direct more funds towards our food recovery programs and work. In 2020, we will recover 29 million pounds of fresh fruits & veggies that would otherwise go to waste, and donate that to local agencies.

We work with over 4,000 unique volunteers every year, and volunteer engagement is an enormous part of how we work. Building a community of people who are interested in fighting hunger and food waste is a core part of our mission. Our online volunteer portal is a primary hub for volunteers engaging with our organization, and we want to remove as many unnecessary barriers to volunteering as possible.

Our mission

Food Forward fights hunger and prevents food waste by rescuing fresh surplus produce, connecting this abundance with people in need and inspiring others to do the same.

What we do

We collect fresh fruits and vegetables that would normally go to waste from backyard fruit trees, public orchards, farmers markets, and the downtown Los Angeles Wholesale Produce Market. 100% of the produce we recover is donated to hunger relief agencies across 8 counties in Southern California.

Testimonials

Tamara was a fantastic volunteer to work with, was responsive throughout the entire project, and let us know when there were questions or minor issues that came up. We came out of this project with a very thorough and complete set of recommendations for website accessibility, which will prove to be a fantastic resource for us working with our web developers in the future. We especially appreciated how organized the assessment was, and how specific and actionable examples were included with each recommendation. Tamara, we really enjoyed working with you, and are so thankful for all the time and work that you put into this project! I would say that it definitely exceeded our expectations for this accessibility assessment.
