Project details

What we need
  • A detailed Operating Budget covering at least one full fiscal year
  • Expert advice on how to reconcile actual expenses with budgeted expenses
Additional details

We have an operating budget that has been built internally and would like feedback to bring it to a more professional accounting level. We also have a few unique things about our non-profit that we have always had difficulty expressing effectively and believe there may be a more accurate way.

What we have in place
  • We currently have an operating budget in excel, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have a future cashflow estimate tool built in excel, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $9,114 , allowing us to provide 10 families with their own inner city growing plot, garden classes, cooking courses, and free fresh produce all fall long at our Lil' Free Farmstand!

This project is important for two reasons. One it will make sure we are financially sustainable. Two it will allow us to present as professionally and clearly as possible to grantors.

Our mission

Caring for and connecting neighborhood families with resources to grow their own food, strengthen relationships, and become ecological stewards.

What we do

We started out as a seed of an idea in 2015 and have since settled into comprehensive community care focused on food resiliency. Our programs provide resources for families to grow produce, access free food, strengthen neighborhood connections, and become ecological stewards.

Entering our sixth year, our team is expanding, as is our volunteer base, beneficiary base, resource base, and geographic reach.

Grow Nashua started using a single underutilized lot at St. Joseph's Hospital and has now grown to accommodate a large transect of the city's population in serve different neighborhoods. Through connection with Nashua's most underserved families we have a feedback loop to listen to the ever-changing community needs and adapt our programming accordingly. In 2020 our "Growing Spaces" hosted 255 residents who consumed 3,000 pounds of food. "Growing Education" adapted efficiently reaching 400 students both in person and virtually with garden, nutrition, and cooking curriculum. Our "Lil' Free Farmstand" gathered 1,300 pounds of excess veggies from Nashua resident gardeners that was shared with 80 families in the French Hill neighborhood. Curbside Compost diverted 100,000 pounds of food waste from the city's landfill and created local green jobs.

By putting down the roots for others that do not have the means we are able to share this enriching experience with others and simultaneously strengthen the neighborhoods of Nashua.

Testimonials

Karen was awesome to work with. Accounting practice was a little daunting to know how to wrap our heads around as a small non-profit, but Karen did a wonderful job simplifying and jumped right in to help reformat some existing documents. Very professional and we are very grateful that she choose to share her talents with us!
