Project details

What we need
  • Audit of existing Employee Handbook, or internal communications regarding employment policies
  • Edit or creation of a new Employee Handbook, which may include any of the following: Standards of Conduct, Work Schedules, Leave Policies, Termination Policies, Safety and Security, Anti-Discrimination policies, Compensation and Benefits policies, any Non-Disclosure Agreements or Conflict of Interest statements that may apply, and any other pertinent information
Additional details

We are looking to update our existing employee handbook to ensure the written policies match what is articulated during onboarding and practiced as staff expands.

What we have in place
  • We currently have an original employee handbook to build from, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have policy and update notes to guide revisions, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $2,430 , allowing us to allocate those resources directly to our community food access and education programs.

Our organization is in a period of growth, where for the first time in its twelve-year history, there are more year-round staff members being added to our team beyond just farm managers and the executive director. The updating of our employee handbook will ensure that everything that has been collectively understood has a tangible point of reference for future staff, and will ease our capacity for small-scale annual adjustments in the future so we can pour more focus to our mission.

Our mission

Sprout City Farms builds educational urban farms to engage communities, strengthen neighborhood resiliency, and root farmers in the city. We envision a thriving local food system supported by a network of accessible city farms which nourish, and are nourished by, their surrounding communities.

What we do

Sprout City Farms is an urban agriculture nonprofit organization based in Denver, CO, started by a group of farmers, researchers, teachers, business leaders, and community members that came together in 2010 with a vision for increasing food access and community resiliency through farming underutilized urban land.

Our farms serve as a platform for education, health, food justice advocacy, ecological stewardship, community wealth building, and neighborhood resiliency.

We recognize that Arapahoe and Cheyenne peoples are the traditional stewards of the land we are farming, and want to honor the enduring relationship that exists between Indigenous Peoples and their traditional territories.

Since 2010, SCF has built:

Denver Green School Community Farm (DGS), a one-acre organic vegetable farm established in 2011 in partnership with Denver Public Schools;

Mountair Park Community Farm (MAP), a 1.5-acre organic vegetable farm established in 2014 in partnership with the City of Lakewood;

Dahlia Campus Farm, a one-acre organic vegetable farm established in 2016 in partnership with Mental Health Center of Denver (now managed by MHCD);

The farm at Jack's Solar Garden (JSG), a 5-acre agrivoltaics site that broke ground in April 2021 in Longmont, where we are growing produce under solar panels and working with researchers to study the results.

Each farm site (DGS, MAP, JSG) serves approximately 2,500 people for a total average of 5,000 people served annually (historical average, pre-pandemic) through SCF programming and operations. Our core programming includes: Healthy Food Access, Farmer Training, Youth & Community Education, and Thought Leadership. These programs were intentionally designed with community input to impact community cohesion, health, and a resilient economy and workforce.
