What we'd like to talk about
I'd like strategic advice on preparing to upgrade our company's website while reinventing its brand as we enter our second decade of existence.
"Phone calls" are 1 hour, one-time calls with an organization. Learn the difference between volunteering on a Phone call and a Project here.
Our mission
To inform and empower all families as advocates for their children who have disabilities, with a focus on under-served communities.
What we do
THRIVE Center provides training/workshops that deal with special education, Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs), 504 Plans, Advocacy, Accommodations, Bullying, Making Friends, Behavior issues, etc. at no cost to families, as well as parent advising which is at no cost to parents. In addition, we provide a bi-monthly, well-received electronic newsletter and a resourceful website. Currently, THRIVE Center has a transition program for students age 14 -21. They learn about options available to them in their post-secondary life while simultaneously in another room their parents learn about community and agency resources. We also have a program entitled 3 to 5 which are a set of workshops that prepare families who have preschoolers with disabilities transition successfully from pre-k to elementary school. Last but not least, we have a mentoring program for African American boys with disabilities called Redeem. Statistic shows the disparities in school discipline when it comes to African American boys particularly if they have a disability. Our center wants to do preventive work when it comes to the school-to-prison pipeline. The boys in our program learn about trust, friendship, courage, leadership, being a team player, loyalty, etc. in a group setting. They also enjoy a fun Saturday outing once a month at no cost to the boys or the mentors.
