Website Set Up (CMS-Based)
Website Set Up (CMS-Based)
Project details
What we need
- Set up of a new website using a Content Management System (CMS) like Wordpress, Squarespace, Joomla, Drupal, or Weebly
- Training to ensure Organization's staff members can update content and manage the site post-launch
- Note: We recommend that you do a Website Content Plan project first, so that you have all the content ready for your new CMS-based site. A CMS-based website can be maintained and updated easily - no coding required!
Additional details
The Arc of Harrisonburg and Rcokingham is at the tail end of an extensive website redesign and we're looking for the right volunteer to bring our new website to life. After working with3 different Catchafire volunteers to complete a website accessibility audit, visual design and content layout, as well as a usability audit and technical specification project, we're finally ready to move to the final step of its creation. The right volunteer with have extensive experience coding/using Wordpress.
What we have in place
- We currently have a full website design and technical specification report, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have an accessibility audit and full map layout of the website, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $16,822 , allowing us to increase the hourly rate of our direct service professionals (those working directly with adults with I/DD) to a livable wage of $15.
The Arc of Harrisonburg and Rockingham is working hard to create an accessible and consistent online presence in the midst of serious financial struggles. We need to be able to connect as many ways as we can with caretakers of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) as well as those living with an I/DD and any other service providers in the area. We're in need of a serious website upgrade in order to make sure we have a consistent hub to receive and reach our community.
Project plan
Our mission
To promote and protect the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively support their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.
What we do
The Arc is a one-stop shop for Information & Referral about Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) and available supports such as navigating state and federal waiver systems, future planning for elderly caregivers, and employment opportunities for those in the I/DD community.
The Arc is a resource and advocate for individuals and families on the local level in regard to education (e.g. IEP process and inclusion) competitive employment and integrated housing, and other areas in which they experience difficulty because of their disabilities. We advocate at the General Assembly to ensure access to truly integrated community-bases services and quality of life and inclusion for all persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).
The Simon-Edmonson Day Support Program works with individuals with I/DD on Person-Centered Plan skill builders and outcomes to equip them with practical skills that will increase their independence.
Community Engagement facilitates the engagement and inclusion of persons with I/DD in community life and offers a wide variety of opportunities to build relationships and natural supports in the community while using it as a learning environment and employing volunteerism as preparation for employment.
SUPPORTIVE IN-HOME SERVICES provide Person-Centered Plan goals and outcomes for persons with I/DD in the individual's own home to improve their ability to attend activities that help them maintain or increase their level of independence; and to provide assistance with appointments or activities outside the home.
RESPITE CARE provides parents or guardians who have a person with I/DD living in the home with time and space to attend to their own needs and to ensure that the individual is safe, engaged in activities of his/her choosing and has access to community activities.
TEEN/ADULT CANTEENS provide recreational programs such as dances and game nights in collaboration with Harrisonburg Parks & Recreation for people with I/DD.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS encompass a wide array of I/DD-related topics for families.
Testimonials
Dave and I worked together for over two months to develop my organization's new website which you can find at www.TheArcofHR.org. During this time, we met weekly through online meetings to look at page developments and to exchange questions. During the week we emailed most other detailed information which Dave was readily available for. Dave was consistently present and willing to merge his technical understanding of Wordpress creation with our website's design needs and function. Looking back, it would have been helpful if we had looked through each page of our prototype together to make sure we were both on the same "page" (wink wink) about the full scope of the project (as opposed to simply sending the link to the prototype and assuming all the details were covered). Dave appreciates a clean transfer of design details but since our website designer was a beginner (also through Catchafire), I was only able to offer him what they had given me which required both of us to do a little extra work in order to transfer the design details to the correct format needed for development. I'd suggest checking in with Dave during the interview process about the specific design formats and info he (and most other web developers) prefer to be given to make for a smooth transfer of vision right from the beginning. Throughout our time together, Dave was incredibly consistent in his production and offered a four phase structure for us to work through as the site was developed. All in all, Dave created the most beautiful website for us which I know will help us bring in new volunteers, donors, and provide a hub for our online presence. We are so grateful for his time and talent!
