Project details

What we need
  • We need to create a brand and brand messaging for our newest project  “National Anthropology Day” (NAD) a new, annual celebration of the discipline of anthropology.
  • We'd like to have NAD have a look and feel that people will notice and want to be a part of.
  • Events we have planned to celebrate this day include the introduction of a Congressional resolution identifying the third Thursday in February 2015 as an official day to acknowledge the contributions of anthropology to American society
  • A series of campus- and museum-based events where we, respectively, ask students to promote the discipline on their respective campuses and museum officials to hold anthropology-related events and seminars.
  •  An official lobbying day on Capitol Hill where AAA leadership and staff meet with appropriate legislators (or their staff); and a briefing on Capitol Hill, where anthropological perspectives on top issues of the day are discussed by members of the discipline with subject matter expertise.
What we have in place
  • We currently have a staff of two persons and a large media network, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have linkages to college campuses, museums and government partners, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $3,600 , allowing us to encourage 4000 students to learn about our discipline.

This project is important for many reasons, but first and foremost, we seek to engage and spread information about the discipline of anthropology on college campuses, the museum community, workplaces (particularly the federal government agencies) and the public at large. Anthropology is a diverse and robust field of research, study and education, and we seek to inform people about the myriad of resources that the discipline provides to undergraduates, graduate students, policy makers and other audiences.

What we do

Founded in 1902, the American Anthropological Association is the world’s largest professional organization of anthropologists, with more than 10,000 members. The association represents all specialties within anthropology – cultural anthropology, biological (or physical) anthropology, archaeology, linguistics and applied anthropology.

Testimonials

Sloane was a pleasure to work with helping us to create a project toolkit for our first annual National Anthropology Day (NAD). NAD was extremely well received by our anthropology clubs and other groups nationwide.
